Today is my last day at home.

I don’t know if I could ever be fully ready for this, but I at least know I'm packed up, flying out of Cincinnati tomorrow morning, and excited. Tomorrow K Squad will reunite in Gainesville, Georgia for a debriefing with the World Race documentary project. Then on Friday we’ll join with the other 150 Racers in Atlanta for Launch training, where we’ll say goodbye to family and take off for Guatemala this time next week.

But before I go I have a story for you.

There are moments when the World Race seems scary. This isn’t a simulation. This is the world, and the world can be a dangerous place.

There have been moments when I’m afraid thinking about what might happen while we’re out there on the Race. But I have a story for you.

It’s a rescue story about a God who is intimately involved in His children’s lives. A God who knows our every thought, every need, every prayer. A God who is with us when we’re in trouble — a God who rescues.

In 2012, my friend Elizabeth was abroad in Australia. At a hostel in the middle of the night, a man followed her into the women’s restroom. He held her inside, trapped. She had no way out.

Without giving away the ending, God rescued her.

I think of this story and I have peace about going into the unknown. Because I know God is my protector and I know He is real.

So Elizabeth and I have a story to tell you.

Check it out.
